How to Make Your House Look Expensive

23 November 2022 by Eileen

Pretend you are out for a walk, and you see two houses. The first house is small, cramped, and dark. The second house is large, bright, and airy. Which one would you rather live in? Most people would choose the second house because it looks more expensive. This blog post will discuss ways that you can make your house look expensive without spending a lot of money!

How to Make Your House Look Expensive

Start with the walls

You can paint the walls a neutral colour, such as white or light grey. This will give your house an expensive and modern look. Another option is to add a statement wall by using a bold, bright colour in one area of the house, such as behind a bed or sofa.

Investing in quality furniture pieces can also make your home look more expensive

Choose timeless pieces that are well-made and will last for years. If you don’t have the budget for designer furniture, consider buying vintage items from second-hand stores, which are often surprisingly affordable.

Layered lighting

Using different types of lighting, such as floor and table lamps, chandeliers, pendants, and wall sconces, will give your home an expensive look. Place the lights around the room to bring out its best features and make it feel more inviting.

Accessorize with natural materials

Adding items such as rugs, baskets, vases, and pillows made from natural materials like jute or seagrass can instantly upgrade a room’s look. Adding greenery to your space is also a great way to liven up a room and add an air of sophistication.

Curtains

Made-to-measure curtains will fit your windows perfectly, and they will instantly make a room look more expensive. Choose fabrics that are thick and heavy, such as velvet or linen, to give the room an opulent feel.

Mirrors

Adding mirrors to a space is another great way to make it look more luxurious. Mirrors reflect light and create an illusion of openness in the room. Place them strategically around the house to enhance its features and open up cramped spaces.

A Deck or Patio

If you have the budget, investing in a deck or patio can completely transform your outdoor space. Choose materials that are high-quality and durable, such as cedar wood, brick, or stone. This will instantly make your home look more luxurious, and it will also increase its value. Make sure to take good care of your deck in order to make it last for many years.

Add an outdoor kitchen to your deck or patio to enhance your outdoor space further. Specifically, installing a grill island as the centerpiece of your area and make it a great place for cooking and entertaining. Your outdoor space will impress your guests, and your home will be more functional and valuable.

Add in textiles

Adding in textiles, such as throw pillows and blankets, can also make a room look more expensive. Choose fabrics that are high-quality and luxurious, such as velvet or silk. For an extra touch of luxury, you can add fur throws or sheepskin rugs.

Large Artwork

Adding large, statement pieces of artwork to your walls can instantly make a room look more expensive. Choose artwork that speaks to you and that you won’t tire of quickly. You can choose from original paintings, sculptures, photography, or even framed fabric or wallpaper.

Making your house look expensive doesn’t have to be expensive. With these tips and tricks, you can create a luxurious home without breaking the bank. With just a few updates and changes, you can transform your home into one that looks like it costs a fortune.
