6 Great Ways to Personalise Your Home Renovation

1 November 2022 by Eileen

Home renovations are one of the best investments homeowners can make. They can add space and value to your property, which makes it easier for a growing family to find someplace where they can relax. However, a renovation is much more than an extra room or improved space. If you want to make the most of it, you need to personalise it so that it matches your family vibe and fits into the rest of the house.

6 Great Ways to Personalise Your Home Renovation

Standard furniture is a given, but what about taking it to the next level and showing everyone that this space belongs to you and your family? If you need some inspiration, here are some ideas to bring into the home and transform your renovation into something comfortable, functional, and relaxing.

Add Plenty of Colour

Every room can be improved by adding colour. Whether you paint the walls or the door or put a vase of fresh flowers on every surface, you can immediately make the space more inviting.

This is just the start, though. You don’t need to commit to a single colour. You can add different pillows, rugs, and blankets that suit the mood. During the summer, bright and bold colours are perfect, while you might want to take a rustic approach when the weather turns.

Make It A Haven of Textures

Textures are also an important aspect of personalising your renovation. Again, this can depend on the time of year and the vibe you want to cultivate. Some homeowners opt for a sleek and modern style with plenty of flat surfaces. On the other hand, you might want to make it more natural and use wool and wood to generate this atmosphere.

If you’re stuck for the best approach or don’t want to decide on a specific theme, layering textures can offer the best of both worlds. You can have a collection of blankets perfect for getting cosy, but you can put these away when the temperatures rise, so you don’t feel too hot.

Put Up Family Photos

Family photos are one of the best and easier ways to personalise your home, and this is no different with a renovation. Hanging polaroid photographs from a length of string is a cheap and easy way to make this happen, while canvas prints make great gifts that you can hang on the walls, too.

Considering how many photographs you take each day of your kids, pets, or partner, you will never run out of options. If you want to save the hassle of printing them off, a digital photo frame will provide a slideshow of your best snaps.

Give It A Purpose

Hopefully, you’ll have established the renovation’s purpose before this. Maybe you need a home office or a gym. Perhaps you want to modernise your kitchen or expand the space in your living room.

Whatever the purpose, you need to stick to it. At the very least, this should give you an idea of how to decorate and what furniture to purchase, meaning you can use the room immediately and reap the benefits of your hard work.

Bring In Some Character

While some people love the modest and minimalist appeal of modern homes, some designs can still feel a little sterile. When you consider how much time and money you put into this renovation, you want the space to feel like home. But, if you don’t want to add knick-knacks and decor for the sake of decor, there are other options to consider.

One approach is adding elegant light fixtures that provide some character without distracting from the rest of the room. This makes an immediate difference but shouldn’t require too much extra effort so you can focus on work or relaxation.

Include Some Hidden Treasures

Everyone loves a surprise, and your renovation decor and furniture are no different. Hidden treasures can apply to a wide range of options, whether multi-functional furniture or convertible equipment that makes the renovation more than meets the eye.

This could be a good idea if you have guests regularly, as it means they will have somewhere to stay (and even enjoy their own space during downtime) without cluttering the rest of the house with blankets and pillows.

Personalised

Your renovation will not feel complete until you make it seem like the perfect family home. These tips should help you generate a few useful ideas, but feel free to take the lead and do whatever feels right. No matter how you approach it, you’ll finish your project and feel like your renovation is perfect.
