Getting Your Garden Ready for Summer

20 August 2021 by Eileen

During the summer months, spending time in your garden can be one of the highlights. A spacious and comfortable garden can become the go-to place for hosting guests, throwing parties, and spending warm evenings. In the lead up to summer, there are several things you can do to get your garden ready.

Getting Your Garden Ready for Summer

Tidy Up

Over the winter, weeds and other unwanted plants can start to appear in the garden. Leaves, shrubs, and flowers may have died in recent months, while strong winds can cause things to move into and around the garden.

Clearing away rubbish and debris can help make your garden look tidier instantly. Pull up any weeds and remove or prune any plants with dead branches and flowers.

Add Some Garden Furniture

Comfortable furniture like garden loungers can add a warm touch to your outdoor space. Invest in quality garden furniture which will last a long time. You can store the items away during the winter and then bring them back out each year for summer.

Items such as a garden recliner chair from VidaXL can be a great addition to your garden and are ideal for people who enjoy spending time in their garden alone.

Spend a Day Cleaning

After a long winter, you might find that your gardening tools, furniture, and other garden essentials are covered in a layer of dust or other debris which has gathered.

Cleaning these items should be a first step before getting stuck into planting or tidying up the rest of your garden. It will also mean that things are able to be used almost immediately, making it easier to start making faster progress with getting your outdoor space ready for summer.

Give the Fence Some Attention

Inspect the fence for any damage which may have occurred during the winter. Ahead of the summer, consider repainting your fence, particularly if a few years have passed since the last time it was painted.

The fence may also need to be treated for any problems or replaced altogether depending on its condition. Standard fences made from timber can last several years, if not decades, when they are looked after well.

Start Planting in Spring

If you want a garden which is blooming with colourful flowers by the time summer arrives, you will need to start planting them in the spring.

Petunias, geraniums, and marigolds are among the most popular flowers for the garden. You can choose a range of flowers, including those which flower every year repeatedly and those which will die after just one summer.

Give your plants suitable areas of the garden to grow and bloom. Some flowers will require plenty of sunlight, while others may prefer the shade. Be careful to check out the information and instructions of any new plants you buy.

Conclusion

Creating your perfect garden space for summer can give you a beautiful place to spend the warmer months. You can be proud of your outdoor area and invite friends and family to visit all summer long.
