Need to keep your spare keys safe or have them easily accessible by your loved ones or friends? Then look no further! This Key Safe Supra P500 that I received for review was the only mechanical key safe box to achieve LPS1175 Issue 8 A5 certificate 1062h and has Police accreditation for being tested on outside walls. This approval is recognised by Secured By Design, as well as by many leading home insurance companies that everyone can trust.
My first impressions of this Supra P500 was that it is great quality, well made key safe box! It is very heavy and weighs 1.9kg. The key safe is constructed from Zinc Alloy and integrates a strong zinc alloy insert as attack resistant as a domestic front door.
Of course, the key safe box has to be installed properly either by yourself or a professional into brick or dense concrete, but not breeze block or mortar. When you purchased through the Key Safe website, there is an option to include installation with a small fee to pay. If you prefer to install it yourself, you would need a black marker for marking the drill holes using the template, a drill, T30 screwdriver and a 5mm masonry/wood drill bit. The P500 fitting pack is available via their website too. When the key safe is installed and used as intended, the key safe is covered by a 5 year guarantee against manufacturing faults.
This video is made by Key Safe that shows you how to install it yourself. It is supplied complete with a removable plastic weather cover, anti-tamper pin Torx screw and four wall tapping screws that do not require wall plugs.
This key safe is rust and water-resistant and can be used in temperatures from – 32°c to 68°c. It gives you peace of mind that this is a very weatherproof box. It comes with a large vault measuring 8.13 cm by 5.03 cm that allows you to store between one and six keys, depending on key type and length (5 – 6 Yale type or 2-5 Chubb style keys). There is a small integral metal hook that allows keys to be hooked.
It also included a special anti-tamper pin Torx screw to stop others, like your staff, contractors and/or tenant to tamper with the code tamper plate and change the code without you knowing. You would need to remove the crosshead screw on the code tamper plate and replace it with the Torx screw using pin T15.
The code is very easy to set as long as the OPEN knob is in the locked position. Also, do not use a screwdriver to change the code. There is a code change tool provided. The position of the code must be pointing upwards (OFF direction – away from the hinge) or downwards (ON direction – facing towards the hinge), and not on either side. According to the manufacturer, there are over 4,000 possible combinations.
I set it up in no time and found that as long as the numbers/letters are key in, the lock will open no matters which sequence its goes. For example, you set A2468B, and you keyed in 2648AB/AB8642/B4862A, it will still work. I do find that quite bizarre. So be careful when choosing your numbers and letters (0-9, A & B). It is ideal to have your code set between five and seven digits, and use a combination of both numbers and letters.
In my video, I unbox the key safe and show you how to change the code and what I think about it. https://youtu.be/RVVFfJ_gYj0
This key safe is very robust and made to last. I am very pleased with the straightforward installation and easy-to-set code. It is affordable too. I like the black weather cover as others might think this is an outdoor plug socket and not a key safe box.
I like the idea of having a key safe to keep my keys safe! My neighbour had one installed for his dog walker to access the dog via the garden. You could use it to give access to friends and family so whoever needs it can access your home. Or if you are renting out your house/holiday home, you could avoid having to wait for the guests. It could prove to be very useful.
