Easy Ways To Keep Your Carpets Clean

26 April 2021 by Eileen

Maintaining a clean carpet can be a challenge – especially if you’ve got pets or kids. Below are a few ways to make cleaning your home’s carpets easier.

Easy Ways To Keep Your Carpets Clean

Hire professional carpet cleaners

When it comes to getting rid of tough carpet stains, you can mess around with vinegar and baking soda and manually scrub away – or you can hire a professional carpet cleaning company to get rid of the stains for you. Such companies use specialist carpet cleaning equipment to get rid of any stains. A professional carpet clean will also help to get rid of any dirt or pet dander that may be lying deep within the carpet, helping your home to smell better and making your carpet more hygienic. An annual clean could be all your carpets need.

Buy a carpet cleaning machine

An alternative option to hiring professional carpet cleaners could be to invest in a carpet cleaning machine. These machines put water and formula onto your carpets, helping to lift out any dirt and grime. There are carpet cleaning machines built for home use. It’s likely to be an easier way of dealing with stains than scrubbing them on your hands and knees. Buying one of these machines could also be cheaper in the long run than relying on a professional carpet cleaning company.

Buy a robot vacuum cleaner

What if you didn’t have to do any vacuuming at all? With a robot vacuum, you can pretty much sit back and let the vacuum cleaner do the work for you. These automated vacuum cleaners are able to move around your carpet freely, changing direction whenever they’re about to approach an obstacle. They could save you a lot of time and effort if you lead a busy life. Just make sure to scan the floor for objects like small toys or jewellery first – anything that is on the floor will get sucked up.

Strategically place rugs to catch mess

You may be able to protect areas of your carpet by laying down rugs. For instance, if a lot of crumbs tend to accumulate around your sofa, you could place a rug beneath your sofa. This keeps the carpet beneath the clean while also allowing you to shake the rug off outside if you don’t fancy vacuuming. Think about areas where carpets are most likely to get messy (such as near the front door as people walk in with muddy shoes or beneath a dining table) and place rugs here.

Switch to laminate wood

If you find that keeping carpets clean is too much of a chore, consider whether it could be worth switching to laminate wood. This flooring can be easily swept and mopped – you don’t even have to vacuum it. Laminate wood floors also aren’t likely to stain as easily and are also more resistant to damage from water and animal claws.

Of course, laminate floors have their disadvantages in comparison to carpets – they’re not as warm, soft or as quiet to tread on. Make sure to weigh up these pros and cons before switching to laminate wood.
