15 Decor Ideas That Will Bring Your Home To Life

10 August 2018 by Eileen Leave a Comment

Your decor can make or break your home. Everybody wants to live in a beautiful space that resonates with them, but not everybody is willing to spend the time it takes to create a home that speaks to them.

It’s important to note that taking the steps below should not be rushed. It can takes months for you to complete the perfect home decor. However, you can choose to start wherever you like, and use only the pointers that you think will suit you and your home.

15 Decor Ideas That Will Bring Your Home To Life

The following 15 decor ideas will help you to bring your home to life, even if you only choose to use a few of them. Enjoy!

  1. Add Plants And Flowers

Plants and flowers should be considered compulsory in every home. They bring the outdoors inside, incorporate natural colors and textures, and make your home smell great. Plus, did you know that plants and flowers can purify the air, and make us happier when we look at them? Science has proven it!

Don’t just bring in one bunch of flowers or plant, either. Bring in multiple plants and layer them to bring lots of texture and greenery to a room. You can even make this work in the bathroom!

Remember, if you don’t want the responsibility of keeping plants alive, you can always purchase fake plants that are easier to maintain (although they won’t be as beneficial).

  1. Include Plenty Of Texture

Having very little texture in your home can make it appear cold and clinical. Incorporating texture will instantly make it look more interesting and professionally put together. Make sure you include texture with rugs, throws, cushions, plants, and anything else you can think of.

Bear in mind it’s important that you find a good balance. Too much texture can be just as bad as not enough. It can be overwhelming, and in some cases if you choose texture that tends to trap dust and other fibres, it can be bad for those with allergies.

  1. Let In More Natural Light

Natural light is key for well being. When you let more natural light into your home, you can rely less on artificial light, make the space appear more open and light, and feel better. Studies show that natural light can make us more productive, so you should especially consider trying this in rooms where you like to be productive, like a home office.

  1. Use Pattern and Color

Patterns and colors that you like should be mixed and matched to add interest to a room. You don’t have to add much; even adding a little bit can bring a space to life and stop it from looking boring. However, if you’re brave enough then you should use this tip to create an eclectic look in your home. The great thing about creating an eclectic look is that it’s a look that is completely your own that nobody else will be able to emulate.

If you’re not sure how you can mix pattern and colors so your home doesn’t look like a hot mess, there are plenty of resources online that will help you. Usually, you must make sure you use an odd number, and use them in varying degrees. So, for example, if you were going to mix patterns, you’d choose three, and then use 10% of one, 30% of another, and 60% of another. There are no rules, of course, but using these pointers will help you to avoid any faux pas.

  1. Create A Gallery Wall

A gallery wall can be a fabulous addition to your home. You can create one entirely to your own specifications, no matter what your tastes or preferences may be. A gallery wall can include picture frames of different colors and sizes, photos of your loved ones, artwork, and anything else you see fit. It can look uniformed, or it can be a little more eclectic in style. Take your time to find the pieces you’d really like to include, and then practice the way you’re going to lay them out on the floor before making holes in your wall.

  1. Take On A Unique DIY Project

By taking on a unique DIY project, you have the opportunity to bring a personal touch to your home. You can find plenty of tutorials online depending on what you have at your disposal, and you’ll no doubt feel a great sense of satisfaction whenever you look at your project.

  1. Only Display Sentimental Clutter

Clutter is something most people have in their home to a degree, but if you have the wrong kind of clutter, it can make your home feel too busy and claustrophobic. Try to get rid of clutter that you don’t need; as a rule, if it isn’t beautiful or useful, then it shouldn’t be in your home. You may choose to keep things your kids have made you, souvenirs from trips, and other pieces that mean something to you. Rather than making us feel weighed down, sentimental clutter can help us to feel happier.

  1. Paint A Bold Feature Wall

Paint a bold feature wall in a plain room to really make a statement. Find a bright color paint that you love and test it in the room first; you can use card so that you don’t end up with multiple paint streaks on the wall. You want to make sure that the color looks true with the level of lighting available in the room.

  1. Bring In Bold Accents

Choose bold accents in your home; for example, you could choose a bold light fitting, or a large accessory to bring the place together. Don’t worry too much about large accessories taking up space; it’s often better to do this rather than use lots of smaller accessories, which can make a space look too busy.

  1. Include Metallic Accessories

Metallic accessories are just perfect for adding a little more texture to your home, and they can complement certain decor styles perfectly. This could even be one of the projects you choose to take on; all you need is an old vase or pot and some metallic spray paint!

  1. Hang Artwork

Artwork should be in every home. It isn’t just for people with a lot of money to burn! You can find great artwork for a great price too, providing you know where to look. Check out local artists, or consider creating your own. You could even use large scale art to fill up a blank wall, or create a mural. This can be a great way to personalize your space and make it appear beautiful.

  1. Display Your Books

Books are a wonderful accessory. They look great when stacked and displayed on a coffee table, shown off on a shelf, or even just arranged on a bookcase. Don’t hide your books away; show them off!

  1. Choose The Right Mirrors For The Room

Mirrors can be a great addition when placed strategically, as they help to reflect light and space around a room. They can make a tiny room appear much larger, and if you choose the right style, they can make it appear more luxurious too.

Don’t be afraid to fill up a wall with your mirrors. There’s no reason you should be choosing a small mirror for a small room. It can be detrimental to the way it looks as a whole!

  1. Personalize It

Make sure your home is personal to you. This is the sort of thing that makes a home a joy to live in! Display pictures of your loved ones, show off your favorite holiday souvenirs, show off projects, make sure people know that you live there!

If you’re decorating your home to sell, of course you should probably avoid this tip. After all, a neutral home allows people to imagine what they would do with the space. If you’re not planning on selling any time soon, then have fun personalizing it any way you like!

  1. Mix Styles From Different Eras For an Eclectic Look

One of the best things you can do when trying to find a style or way to decorate your home, is to mix styles from different eras. Rather than selecting one era, which can make your home seem a little old fashioned, choose two or three. Just like with the pattern rule, use them in different amounts so that your home doesn’t look strange. Mix both ultra modern and ultra vintage for an eclectic look that nobody will be able to copy. This is how you create a timeless style that you won’t get bored of for years to come, unlike blindly following trends or what’s ‘in’ at the moment.

Which of these 15 decor ideas will you use to bring your home to life? Leave your favorites below, and any of your own tips. Everyone deserves to live in a space that they absolutely love, so take the time to transform yours now.

Thanks for reading!
