Goodbye Christopher Robin Review

28 February 2018 by Eileen

Goodbye Christopher Robin is available to buy now on DVD & Blu-ray from good retailers and Amazon. This movie gives a rare glimpse into the relationship between beloved children’s author A. A. Milne and his son Christopher Robin. His toys inspired the magical world of Winnie the Pooh which grasps the attention of not just Britain, but the entire world, as everyone falls for the warm, soft, fuzzy bear who conquers our hearts just as much today as he did back then.

This true story is set at the end of the First World War, where beloved children’s author A. A. Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) decided to retreat into a quiet estate with his family, hoping to find inspiration to bring happiness into writing and take the edge off his haunting memories of the war.

One day, Milne’s wife Daphne (Margot Robbie) and their nanny Olive (Kelly Macdonald) had to leave their place which leaves Milne looking after his son. The inexperienced father has no idea how to care for his son and is soon drawn into the world of his son’s imagination and creates the magical world of Winnie-the-Pooh which brings him immediate acclaim.

Of course, with every successful story, there is always a struggle between fame and family life. In this movie, we are seeing the other side of success that impacts Christopher Robin. It’s a moving story that provides insight to a world famous boy and what becomes of him in later life. I enjoyed this heartwarming story and the superb performances from the actors make it a great watch.

Thanks to 20th Century Fox and their PR company, we have received a Blu-ray accompanied with this 18” Merrythought teddy bear! In 1921, Daphne bought a teddy bear in Harrods for Christopher and it became young Christopher’s constant companion. Following a trip to London Zoo, Christopher decided to rename his bear after the zoo’s own resident black bear, Winnipeg, or Winnie for short. This teddy bear is a detailed replica of the Edward bear, handmade by Merrythought, that Christopher fell in love with, and who inspired the stories that have delighted generations for more than 90 years.
