Making the most with Avios eStore

31 July 2017 by Eileen

Did you know that by changing your shopping habits, it could help you to turn your everyday spending into extraordinary experiences with Avios? I’m really pleased to take part in the Mumsnet Avios eStore blogger challenge to learn how many Avios I could have collected if I had shopped via the vios eStore and other Avios partners!

Making the most with Avios eStore

To get the ball rolling, I submitted a week of our spending including groceries, travel costs, clothing, entertainment, presents, takeaways, restaurants and anything else I purchased in a typical week. Based on my weekly spending, Avios has calculated how many Avios I could have collected in a year and translated it to holidays and experiences made possible with Avios.

Category Weekly Cost (£) Retailer Avios collection rate* Potential approx Avios (annually)
Presents 30 Not on the High Street 4/£1 6,240
Groceries 70 Tesco 600/£2.50 8,736**
Takeaways 25 Hungry House 5/£1 6,500
Eating Out 40 Pizza Express 3/£1*** 6,240****
Garden Centre 15 Gardening Direct 10/£1 7,800
Household Items 12 Wilko.com 4/£1 2,496
Petrol 45 (approx. 37 litres) Shell 1 Avios per litre 1,924
Gifts 8 TheToyshop.com 3/£1 1,248
Leisure – food & drink 30 Tesco 600/£2.50 3,744
Total 44,928

*Calculation based on pounds

**Calculated using https://www.avios.com/gb/en_gb/collect/tesco/tesco-clubcard?from=collectNav

*** Earn 3 Avios per £1 Friday & Saturdays, or 6 Avios per £1 Sunday – Thursday

**** Using the Bink mobile app, you can collect Avios at all Pizza Express restaurants

I’m amazed that I could collect nearly 45,000 Avios in a year which could be used on flights, hotel stays, cabin upgrades, experiences and more. I could treat Mr C to an off-road driving experience, or treat the whole family to visit Legoland, Thorpe Park or Chessington World of Adventures and have spare Avios to treat myself to a spa day!

How to start collecting? It’s easy. Avios is free to join so simply open an account with them. Then shop via Avios eStore with almost 1,000 top retailers, including; John Lewis, Selfridges, House of Fraser, Apple, Currys, Argos and many more.

Next click through the link to the retailer and shop online, and you will collect up to 12 Avios per £1 spent. It is that simple! You can also easily shop via Avios eStore on your mobile or on the Avios app.

I mostly do my weekly grocery shopping with Tesco and I am delighted to know that I can also turn Clubcard vouchers into Avios or accumulate Avios automatically every time I receive a Clubcard statement. Also eating at Pizza Express collects Avios. I’ve been missing out! If only I’d known earlier and downloaded the Bink mobile app!

Now you just have to collect enough of the reward currency to treat yourself to your dream destinations, cabin upgrades, unforgettable experiences and more. Have you joined and started collecting Avios yet? I have!

Whether I’m creating festive crafts, exploring Chinese traditions, or trying out new recipes, I hope to inspire others through everyday moments from home.
