Dinosaur DNA Dino Dig Kit Review

16 November 2016 by Eileen Leave a Comment

This Dinosaur DNA Dino Dig Kit is a cool and awesome kit that enables your child to dig for glow in the dark fossils!  Then you can rebuild an interactive dinosaur that will leap out of the screen using their free app!  It is suitable for aged eight and above.

This kit contains one plaster block embedded with dinosaur DNA fragment stickers and skeleton, digging tools, brush, two AR play mats, soft wax and instructions.

Mr K was thrilled when he saw the box!  He always like to collect fossils as a hobby.  On a number of occasions when he saw those machines that sells fossils, he would ask me to buy him one.

Before we started digging, I placed the plaster block on top of a lot of paper to collect all the plaster dust.  As for precaution, Mr K wore eye goggles.

Initially Mr K was all excited and was happily trying to dig the fossils but the plaster block was far too difficult to dig.  In order to give him a helping hand, I decided to chip off some of the plaster using a big mallet!  Of course, you could soak the block in water for a minute to soften the plaster or spray it with water.

Then we both slowly cleaned off the plaster from the skeleton and tried to piece the dinosaur together.  Mr K was not able to identify the structure of the skeleton. Hence I had to explain to him how the skeleton should be pieced.  This is a great opportunity for him to learn along the way!

After we managed to piece the skeleton together with a bit of help using pliers and forceps, Mr K stuck the DNA stickers to complete the AR play mats.  We then downloaded the free app DinoCodes via iTunes or Google Store to activate the Augmented Reality element of the product.

The app is very easy to use and within seconds, we managed to release the Dinosaur out of the play mats!  It’s very impressive and Mr K had fun taking photos and learning interesting facts about dinosaurs.  Besides having fun using the app, he is also able to keep this awesome glow in the dark dinosaur skeleton that is now sitting pride of place on his window sill!  This is available to buy from Ryman Stationery.

Disclosure: We received the sample for the purposes of writing this review, however all thoughts and opinions remain our own.
