Paper Cutting For Celebrations Review

16 January 2016 by Eileen 135 Comments

Would you like to give your gift an unusual touch or perhaps you would like to show off your paper craft skills to impress your family and friends? Then Paper Cutting For Celebrations is the perfect book for you. This book is written by Zhao Ziping who is a professional paper cutting artist at the Shanghai Arts & Crafts research institute, and was published by Tuttle Publishing in June 2014. It is available to buy on Amazon.

The book contains over 100 Chinese designs for festive holidays and special occasions for you to make your gift look unique and extra special.

paper cutting for celebrations content

The book covers paper cuttings for nine occasions and holidays, including: Birthdays, Celebration for the New Born, Weddings and Anniversaries, Graduation and Promotion, Housewarming, New Year, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. From window decorations to ornaments, wind chimes to greeting cards, coasters to lanterns, Paper Cutting For Celebrations and a pair of scissors gives you everything you will need to create over 100 different paper cutting projects.

This book includes patterns of various levels of difficulty and intricacies. You will learn about the meaning and symbolism behind each picture. This book can be used in two ways: find a suitable pattern in the book, cut along the outlines, and use as decorations on various objects or trace and transfer patterns onto different materials of your choice and cut them off. I would personally prefer the latter one.

I enjoyed browsing through the book and reading the explanations in detail. The patterns are very interesting and does require plenty of skills! I am not great with scissors and a pen knife! I find that this book is most suitable for intermediate paper cutters than a beginner like me. The book does have some easy paper cuttings but I do find it quite hard as I don’t have a steady hand!

Disclosure: I received this book from the publisher for free. However, they have not paid me for this review, and they do not exercise any editorial control over my review or anything else on this site. We have included an Amazon affiliate link to the product.
