Miaow Miaow Bow Wow is a book written by Francesca Simon and illustrated by Emily Bolam. This is the red Early Reader and is the next step on your reading journey. It was released on 2nd August 2012 and published by Orion Books.
The book is paperback containing about 64 pages with many beautiful water colour illustrations. The font varies in size. Before the story begins, there are a few pages to introduce the animals from Buffin Street.
This is a story about Dizzy the dog who loves to sing, but the mean old Alley Cats won’t let him join their chorus. So he went to gather his fellow dogs to form a group called Doggie Delights. Both dogs and cats tried to sing at night and they are not only disturbing the neighbourhood but also the peace and harmony between these animals. So Do-Rie-Mi the Parrot decided they should all take turns each evening to sing and on Sunday, there will be a joint concert. Then they all live in peace and harmony whilst not quite with the neighbourhood.
The storyline is borderline and I wish it was a bit more fun. It didn’t quite capture my children’s attention in the same was as Francesca’s other books. There are too many words of animals sound but not enough storytelling. The book is easy to read and understand by both the children. At the back of the book, there are questions about the story which helps reaffirm what you’ve just read together. Both children did well at remembering each scene.
