Cat’s Tongue Cookies

Cat’s Tongue Cookies is another recipe from The Secret of Cookies by Gu Huixue. I totally love this book my friend bought for me in Singapore! One of the ingredients is cake flour which I replaced with plain flour.

Quick Sprinkle with OXO Shake & Flavour

Occasionally I have to cook three to four individual meals for my family. I am the only one who eats hot and spicy food while the rest don’t.  Ms C is very picky and fussy!  She only likes plain food with a limited selection of vegetables. Mr C and Mr K loves their meats, particularly a nice roast.

I am lucky to be picked to test out a range of OXO Shake & Flavours.  I see these as being a great time saver in cooking individual meals!

Gressingham Duck with an oriental twist

This recipe is for Red Tractor #RTChallenge. This is my sixth recipe using Red Tractor Assured ingredients they provided. Do check out the rest of my other recipes like salad with couscous, homemade pizza, rhubarb crumble, Chinese almond cookies and Chinese ABC soup!

Sarson Cookery School Event with My Daddy Cooks

Last week, we were fortunate to be invited to attend Sarson Cookery School Event with Nick Coffer, author of My Daddy Cooks.  Ms C and I took the earliest train to get to London to make sure we arrived with plenty of time. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Nick and Ruth.

Banana Cake with Morrisons

Morrisons invited several BritMums bloggers to become a #MorrisonsMum (or #MorrisonsDad!) and to go into their local store and spend £80 worth of vouchers on their bank holiday shop.  We were really fortunate to get picked!

We are no strangers to Morrisons as they are my fortnightly shop especially for Fuji apples and poultry.  I like their fresh meat counter as they are British meat and of course their meat is endorsed by Red Tractor.

ProCook Cast Iron Griddle Review

Recently, I came across ProCook on Twitter and had a look at their website.  The ProCook brand was founded in 1996 and has grown to become the UK’s leading specialist cookware multi-channel retailer.  They are currently trading via 21 stores across the UK, regular mail order catalogues and a fully transactional and secure website.  They offer fantastic value for money with 30 – 50 % off high street prices.

Steamed Vanilla Sponge Cake with Sprite

As many of may know, I love to cook Asian food as this is what I was brought up with.  Having lived in the UK for over 10 years, now would seem an appropriate time to try old and new Asian food recipes and blog about it.

I always love Chinese sponge cake as they are very light and spongy.  On the other hand, my husband is not so keen on them as he feels that the sponge cakes have no content and they are too light.  I then saw my Singaporean Facebook friend posted a photo of her steamed cake and I decided to Google it.  There are quite a few recipes for the Steamed Vanilla Sponge Cake.  I tried two recipes: Siukitchen Steamed Cake and Steamed Pandan Sponge Cake.  Both recipes are very successful but I would prefer the latter one as it uses less ingredients.

How to cook a perfect pancake using the right tools

I have to admit that I am not a brilliant pancake maker but using the right kitchen tools does help to cut down waste, time and make a perfect pancake.  Not long ago, I received the Pyrex granate pancake pan, an OXO Good Grips turner, OXO Good Grips batter dispenser and a bottle of Clarks Maple syrup.  You can read from my past blog post on how I did the pancake challenge with those items and how I used Clarks maple syrup in smoothies.

Pancake Day with OXO Good Grips

It is almost the time of the year to show off your flipping skills as Pancake Day (Shrove Tuesday) is fast approaching.  Shrove Tuesday is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.  In the UK, traditionally people eat pancakes on that day hence it is called Pancake Day.

My Leftover Challenge with Knorr

As a SAHM, I always plan our meals and try to make sure that nothing goes to waste.  But during the festive season, it is easy to go overboard and buy too much food, ‘just in case’. I am so excited to join Mumsnet and Knorr to create my own recipes or to try out Knorr recipes to do this challenge.  I decided to make up my own recipes.

Festive Food and Drink Round Up

Our fabulous Cotton On’s blogger Zoe Lester very kindly organised us huge goody bags! To carry all the goodies, we’re thankfully to JoJoMaman Bebe who sponsored us each a navy JoJo Buggy Bag valued at £9 RRP. This is definitely a great value practical bag. It can be worn over the shoulder or clipped onto the handles of a buggy. It is very big (H36 x W51 x D11cm) and can fill a lot of useful stuff so is perfect for shopping. I have not used it on a buggy as Ms C is able to walk everywhere now.  But I imagine it would be very handy for a picnic too!  The large strap is quite long and the design is unisex which can be also carried by men!

Olive Fried Rice with Tenderstem

Last weekend was our bloggers night in and we had received some food samples for us to try out during and after the party. During the party, I served my guests olives straight from the tin.  Personally, I have never bought tinned olives as I was always concerned that the tin may cause the olives to have a metallic smell. I would opt to buy fresh or in a jar. However, after trying these olives, I was very impressed!  Both green and black olives are very tasty, not soggy and bursting with flavour.

Our Saturday Christmas Activities using Stencil

It was another gloomy Saturday so we decided to stay at home to do art and craft and baking with the kids. It’s always a great way of spending family time together. At times, it can be quite stressful for me preparing the items before both children start pestering me. So I brought out all the stuff we needed the night before.

We started off making Christmas cards for our relatives in Singapore using a stencil to draw and write on the card. I still remember when I was very young we used to own a few huge stencils from Alphabet to Numbers. We used those with our school projects, posters and school bag. Now there are so many different types of stencils from letter stencils to cake stencils. After the kids finished using the stencils, they randomly pasted foam shapes, coloured paper and flowers on the Christmas card ready to send off to Singapore!

Personal Chef Sophie Wright

Early May, I had asked advice from Bright Grey about how to protect our financial future. We were lucky to get picked to have a personal chef cook a meal for us while my husband and I could have the time to chat about our financial future. We would like to thank Bright Grey for this fantastic experience!  They sent Sophie Wright to cook a meal for us while we discussed our finances. It has been a long time since my husband and I have had the opportunity to sit down and chat about it. It is not something we do very often as I normally don’t handle it.

Sainsbury Live Well For Less

Food prices are always on the rise. Have you thought how to make your budget stretch? I love to cook for my family as you can be sure of what’s in there. There won’t be any nasty ingredients nor too much of the unhealthy ones. Sainsbury’s Live Well For Less have challenged a few parenting bloggers to share advice and savvy suggestions for using basics to create everyday food, without compromising on quality.
