Cuckoo Clocks That Fit the Modern Home

5 October 2020 by Eileen Leave a Comment

When I think of cuckoo clocks, it often takes me back to childhood memories of those American movies I watched where the clock strikes and the cuckoo jumps out of the scene to scare the wits out of me!

Cuckoo Clocks That Fit the Modern Home

But those days are gone! Actually, cuckoo clocks represent art deco, simplicity and quirkiness. They can come in large panes of white or plain wood housing, intricately carved leaves, gorgeous hand-crafted iconic birds with modern mechanical movement.  Some even have deer, trees or a hunting scene. They have been wonderfully revamped to suit any modern home!

I was very pleased to receive a beautiful white Quartz Cuckoo Clock with five-leaves. It has a traditional look but looks so modern that it wouldn’t look out of place in most homes. Whether you prefer a traditional cuckoo clock or want to go with a modern colour of pink or green, there’s a cuckoo clock to suit everyone’s taste.

You may wonder why cuckoo clocks are so expensive? This one is selling at just over £150. There are many reasons and one thing is for sure, they are fully handmade and of the highest quality. Clocks with more fine details and carvings will be more expensive.  Also, the bigger the clock is, the more pricey they are. Traditional cuckoo clocks feature mechanical clock movements and come as 1-day or 8-day. The 8-day movement clocks are more expensive than 1-day. Quartz clocks are batteries operated and it takes away the need for winding. If there are more musical tones or melodies, they will typically be more expensive than those without. My clock echoes every hour.

This battery-operated clock is made by a well-known Germany company, Trenkle and they have been manufacturing Black Forest Cuckoo Clocks, Black Forest Clocks and weather houses in Simonswald in the Black Forest for more than 40 years now. If you know your clocks and you’re wondering if this is a genuine Black Forest Clock, the answer is no. This clock is a quartz movement and does not come with a VDS certificate. They do not meet the requirements for this certification as it does not have a mechanical clock movement.

This clock requires two C batteries and it comes with automatic night-off. What a relief! It is so convenient that you don’t have to worry about forgetting to manually turn off the lever each night.

The two decorative chains and weights can be manually adjusted to the length you want.  So do remember to leave plenty of space below your clock to hang freely and not squash.

If you like what you have seen, they also sell them in a traditional walnut colour. They are available to buy from the online shop cuckooclocks.com or you can get it on Amazon. Take a look at the cuckoo clock shop because they have videos of many clocks to show you just how the cuckoo clock look when running. You’ll also find how to set up your clock when it arrives and useful troubleshooting tips on the website.
