Harry Potter Sorting Hat Review

14 November 2018 by Eileen 3 Comments

The Hogwarts Houses were started by the four Founders of the school: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin. Each house bears the last name of its founder: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff.

Legend has it that the Sorting Hat once belonged to Godric Gryffindor and that it was enchanted by all four founders to ensure that students would be sorted into their houses. Do you want to know which house you are assigned on your first evening at Hogwarts? This wise old Harry Potter Sorting Hat will assign you to the rightful house!

Harry Potter Sorting Hat review

This Harry Potter sorting hat is a big hit in this household. Ever since Harry Potter first donned the Sorting Hat in J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world series, I also wondered which of the four Houses I would be assigned to!

Harry Potter Sorting Hat

We all had a go and love the simplicity of this toy. There is only one function of this hat which is to assign you to your rightful house. Other than that, there is no more play element to it. This hat is quite pricey, hence I would want to look after the hat and use it as a display item rather than a toy for young children to play with.

This hat takes three AA batteries, which are included in the set. The battery compartment is found inside the hat and is padded by a felt lid with Velcro. There is a switch with three options: try me, off and on. Remember to switch it off if not in use.

Once you place the sorting hat on your head, simply press the button on the right side of your hat to activate the phrase. I do find this hat is slightly small for my head, but it is alright for my children (41 cm in diameter). This hat is 100% polyester and feels like a soft suede material. It has a polyester fibre and polyester foam lining for stability, and a plastic brim for shape. The hat is 43 cm tall.

It is a reproduction of the Hogwarts School sorting hat with many small fabric embroidery details all over the hat and it operates like a puppet with a moveable mouth. This Harry Potter sorting hat is imported by Kids@Play and is available to buy it from good toy retailers, Argos, online and Amazon.

Some fun facts for you:

  • If you are a Gryffindor, you are in good company with famous Gryffindors including Minerva McGonagall, Albus Dumbledore and Harry Potter. You are brave and daring!
  • Did you know that Merlin was a Slytherin? If you are a Slytherin, you will also be joining Severus Snape, Draco Malfoy and of course Tom Riddle. Slytherin’s are proud, ambitious and cunning. Does that fit your personality?
  • If you are a Ravenclaw you would share a house with Luna Lovegood, Gilderoy Lockhart and Professor Flitwick. You are full of wisdom and learning.
  • If you are a Hufflepuff, then you would share a house with Newt Scamander, Cedric Diggory, Professor Sprout and Nymphadora Tonks. Hufflepuffs value hard work, patience and loyalty.

So are you a Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff?
