Today is the start of Child Safety Week which runs from 1st June to 7th June 2015. Electrical Safety First have written an article on Beauty Burns to raise awareness as part of the campaign. In the article, it will show you their top tips on how to keep your children safe from hair straighteners. It is horrifying to know that 1 in 10 burns in children are caused by hair straighteners.
Did you know that hair straighteners can reach temperatures of over 220°C? That is extremely hot! It could potentially hurt adults too if used without care. Also, did you know that hair straighteners can take up to forty minutes to cool down after use? They can cause severe burns if they touch the skin. I wouldn’t want to risk my child or anyone in my house with this. So I always place such items on the top shelve and away from other products prone to catch fire like tissue paper, clothing, etc. I always leave plenty of space for the product to cool itself down.
This video made by Electrical Safety First that I have shared here highlights the dangers of leaving your straighteners unattended near toddlers. Do share it with friends who may leave their hair straighteners laying around. This video will hopefully make them think twice before leaving them out in a potentially hazardous place.
So always remember to turn them off and put them away. Keep them out of reach of children.
Also don’t forget other products like hair dryers, heaters, irons, etc. Store them safely to prevent any accidents.
