Like many others, we’ve embraced online shopping and would now find it a real chore and inconvenience if we had to go back to shopping for everything from the high street! However, with the wealth of information online and the increasing number of online outlets available to you, this in itself can end up being quite time consuming.
For example, I dropped a hint to my husband a while ago that we need a better new compact camera, and he must have spent hours upon hours researching various products, reading up on professional and consumer reviews and of course looking for the best prices. Wouldn’t it be great if you could just visit one website that would do the price searching for you?
Well, in our research, we came across Beat My Price by Bespoke Offers. The concept behind this is you type in a URL of a product that you’re looking for from a large online retailer and Beat My Price will search for the product with all its partners and will try to beat your price within 48 hours. You can have up to five live price searches at any one time i.e. if one of your queries is resolved before the other four, you can request another search.
We tried this for 3 products: the Canon G7X camera which we found at John Lewis for £449, a Humax Freeview HD box (HDR-2000T 1TB) which we found at Amazon for £189 and the Little Big Planet 3 video game for the PS3, again from Amazon for £25. Beat My Price was really easy to use. You simply browse for the product that you want from any large online retailer then copy the website address (URL) and paste it into the Beat My Price page. It may ask you an additional question or two, such as the quantity or platform (e.g. PS3). Then once confirmed, it will email you within 48 hours with the best price it can find.
In fact, Beat My Price returned prices for all three products within 24 hours and it did return cheaper prices for all. The camera price was £419.52, the Freeview box was £164.99 and the PS3 game was £22.70. These prices are available for a set number of hours and can vary. If you wish to proceed with the purchase, you simply add it to your basket and checkout. Do note that you are under no obligation to buy anything!
I’m surprised and really pleased with these results. It’s a total saving of over £54 (9.0%). I’m also delighted with how easy Beat My Price is to use and it’s a real time and money saver. If you are looking to purchase anything from a large online retailer, I’d recommend giving Beat My Price a go to see if you can save some money.
