Home Improvement Unsung Hero Competition

23 July 2013 by Eileen 8 Comments

This is a competition entry for Home Improvement Hero by MoneySupermarket.
I am not really a hero but more like an unsung mummy.  I did most of the house redecoration like painting, wallpapering and fixing lights.  Last week, I was trying to replace my bathroom light bulb and unfortunately I dropped the light cover and smashed it on the floor.  While I was trying to catch the cover, I slipped and fell down the ladder.  It was quite a bad fall that I cut my finger, grazed my arm and bruised the right side of my leg.  We have now had to replace the light and so it has set back our financial.  I wanted to spend more on a nice photo for my husbands office but now we have to make do with what we have left.
It was my husband’s office that I wanted to improve.  We went to B&Q bought a tin of yellow paint and a value paint roller. We also took a metre of yellow striped wallpaper.  Next, we headed down to Ikea to get a red photo frame.
Firstly, we removed all the furniture and cover the floor with plastic cover from poundland.  While my husband painted the room, I used double sided tape on the photo frame board, stuck the wallpaper on it and framed it.  It is very easy to do so.  This was a cheap and cheerful way to put a nice print on the wall.

In total, I spent £18 on the paint, £4 on the roller, free for wallpaper, light cover £10, light bulb £8, £8 for photo frame and £2 on plastic cover sheets which worked out to be £50.
Thanks to MoneySupermarket for giving us £50 to make this happen for my family.  Now my husband has a nice office and we have a working light!
