Once you move into a new place, it is quite common to spend some time renovating the place. Then complacency sets in and before you know it you’re five years down the line and suddenly everything looks like they could do with a revamp. This happened to us recently. As part of another project, we recently renovated our old nursery room and downstairs toilet and now every other part of our house looks like it could do with a revamp.
These are some of the ideas that we’ve been discussing:
– Our front door is very plain and there is no place to store our shoes, a porch could provide an excellent facelift to our home. Not only do they look great but they are practical in providing some shelter from the elements.
– We would love to transform our stairway by installing a new stair balustrade. Our stairway is immediately there as you walk through the front door and I think this would provide a good impression and great focal point to anyone coming in.
– Something that we did do a few years ago was add decking to our garden, which I think provides a really nice place to relax and entertain guests. We could probably do with a new set of garden furniture to complement it.
– Loft conversion can be expensive but it is something that would add value to the house. We don’t need the extra room at the moment. But this would be a project that we would consider in the near future for storage or to use as a guest room.
– Need more space? Why not add a conservatory? Again, they add value to the house and they are great space for relaxing and for sunlight.
Renovations don’t need to be expensive. Often a fresh coat of paint will reinvigorate any room. Also, carefully selected furnishings can bring a room to life. I love to use Pinterest as they give you many tips and inspirations for your next DIY or redecoration.
We are looking forward to our next DIY project, so go on, set yourself a project and get renovating!
