Lichfield Bower 2013

28 May 2013 by Eileen 1 Comment

Lichfield Bower is the oldest traditional festival held every spring bank holiday.  It is about 800 years old.  This year it was held on 27 May 2013.  We have been living in Lichfield for five years and unfortunately have always missed it due to going away each time.  This year, we made an effort not to miss this specular festival.
Each year, there are three categories where they have Bower Queen (over 16 years old), Prince and Princess (10 – 15 years old) and Deputy Prince and Princess (5 – 9 years old).
We managed to catch part of The Bower Route.  These are the lovely people in their fancy tractors, floats and vehicles.

We then went to Beacon Park where there are food stalls, Pat Collins Fun Fair, water spheres, quad bikes, paintball, birds of prey from the Armitage Bird of Prey Centre, Scruffs Dog Show, local trampoline club – G Force, 360 motorbike show, music events and lots more.
After spending £3 on the tombola, I won a photo frame that I will probably never use now that I have a digital photo frame.  My friends won an old-looking, possibly second handback massager and kindly gave it to us (!) citing that they had won too much already (she had also won a wireless G router which is superseded technology).  The £3 spent was worth it for comedy value alone!
The highlight of the events for us was definitely the 360 motorbike show where they displayed heart-stopping tricks.  Overall we had a great family day out and we will definitely go back again!
